Donate to these charities supporting Afghanistan

Raisely exists to empower thousands of charities responding to crises across the world. One such is the global effort to support the people of Afghanistan. Here are 7 campaigns that act with impact.

Like the rest of the world, we have been watching the unfolding crisis in Afghanistan with bated breath.

Seeing the photographs, newsreels and articles over recent days has moved us that much closer to the crisis - watching intently to understand how we can help.

Throughout the last 20 years, Afghanistan has been at war.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed.

Millions have been displaced.

Then, on August 14th 2021, the Taliban - a militant Islamic group that ran Afghanistan in the 1990s - regained control of the country. With coalition forces withdrawn, the Afghan people and foreign workers are faced with uncertainty, chaos and fear for the future.

Now, more than ever before, they need our support.

What can we do to help Afghanistan?

A raft of UN agencies and other aid groups are bravely staying in Afghanistan, fearing a return to mass killings, starvation, and the removal of human rights and political freedoms.

There’s a long road ahead; from immediate welfare needs to ongoing resettlement and psychological care.

It’s a huge challenge, but one we can’t back away from. Though there’s little good news to share about the situation, one bright light is flickering on: humanity is once again answering charities’ pleas for support.

Alongside everyday donors stepping up to donate to Afghanistan, more than 24 countries across 4 continents are also reportedly committed to delivering direct assistance.

Every Visa granted and every cent donated has the potential to change Afghan lives.

To join global efforts to ease Afghanistan’s suffering, we recommend partnering with an active campaign, like:

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) – also known as the UN Refugee Agency – exists to:

  • aid and protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people, and
  • assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement to a third country.

The agency is supplying emergency shelter, food, health, water and sanitation support and cash assistance to help Afghanistan.

But with their stocks running low, and the situation worsening, they urgently need help to scale up their supplies.

War Child UK

War Child UK is the only specialist charity for children affected by conflict.

The charity has been directly supporting children in Afghanistan since 2002. And now, with some 9.7 million Afghan children in need of humanitarian assistance, it’s trying hard to reach those caught up in this terrifying crisis.

Since May this year, almost 250,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, with an increasing number of child casualties and deaths. 32% of civilian casualties during this period were children.

War Child UK urgently needs food, hygiene kits and the resources to deliver psychological first aid.

Indigo Foundation

Indigo Foundation is a prominent Afghan charity, which has partnered with communities for over 20 years. It provides access to education and improves education outcomes for children and young people, with a particular focus on equity for girls and young women.

Under the Taliban, women lost the right to work, study, move and even live in peace. Responding to the latest developments, the foundation said it will be advocating ‘for the protection of human rights and responding in practical ways’ as the situation evolves.

GIM Foundation

GIM Foundation is a leading Australian organisation dedicated to providing humanitarian relief and development programs around the world.

In the current crisis, they’re delivering life-changing essentials like clean water, nutritious food, quality education and healthcare wherever the need is greatest – reaching orphans, widows, refugees, internally displaced people, the elderly and vulnerable.

Emergency Action

Emergency Action Alliance is a powerhouse partnership of 16 Australian-based humanitarian charities. Pooling their knowledge, expertise and resources, Emergency Action can step in when disaster strikes - providing emergency aid where it’s needed most.

As a united alliance, Emergency Action is an excellent choice if you’re not sure where to send your support. They have a unique process, allocating funds to partnered charities in response to changing needs - making sure operations on the ground get the specific skills and support they need.

Members include well-respected and renowned charities, such as:

One Nation UK

One Nation UK is a relief and development charity with a 100% Donations Policy.

They’re providing refugees with food and hygiene parcels, including things like oil, rice, sugar, tea, flour, salt, dhaal, kidney beans, matchsticks, and laundry and body soap.

They’re also delivering clothing for children and adults, tents for displaced families, toilets and showers for camps and medical aid assistance.

Donors can contribute to the emergency items of their choosing.

Global Development Group

Global Development Group has partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on an emergency relief project to help deliver much-needed assistance to Afghanistan. In the first six months of this year, WFP delivered food and nutrition assistance to 5.5 million people, including people displaced by fighting.
